The Categorisation of Defects manual is produced to help operators understand DVSA’s inspection standards.

DVSA has released an updated manual covering the actions a DVSA examiner will take when roadworthiness defects are discovered and covers new guidance on how defects detected at annual test, or at a roadside encounter are dealt with.

The changes include new guidance covering:

  • engine malfunction indicator lamp defects
  • emission control system faults
  • lighting defects and number plates
  • indirect vision devices
  • modified seatbelts

The new guidance also includes the introduction of tyre pressure measurement at the roadside for single fitment tyres
